NIO Briefs U.S. Intelligence Community on Neurotechnology
Washington D.C. and San Francisco, CA – August 16, 2007 – NIO, the Neurotechnology Industry Organization, today announced that the association briefed the Committee on Military and Intelligence Methodology for Emergent Neurophysiological and Cognitive/Neural Science Research in the Next Two Decades. Sponsored by the Defense Intelligence Agency, this committee is working on a study to identify the trends in neurophysiological and cognitive/neural science research that may help the U.S. Intelligence Community anticipate the state of such research internationally in the year 2027.
One of the key topics covered by NIO's Executive Director, Zack Lynch, was the National Neurotechnology Initiative (NNTI), a proposed Federal research and development program designed to coordinate balanced and focused strategic investment across multiple agencies to accelerate development of vitally important areas of the field.
“The development of new drugs and devices for the brain and nervous system are critical to U.S. national defense and warfighter rehabilitation,” said Zack Lynch, Executive Director of NIO. “Huge quality of life improvements and economic payoffs will accrue to the countries that successfully nurture the emerging neurotechnology industry. The National
Neurotechnology Initiative will not only stimulate economic growth in
the United States, but like other visionary R&D initiatives, will
spur greater public investment among all nations seeking a competitive
voice in the fast growing global industry known as neurotech.”
