The Neurotechnology Industry Organization has engaged Buchanan, Ingersoll & Rooney to represent the policy and advocacy interests of the neurotechnology industry in Washington. Working together, NIO members and our strategic partners including KL Gates will be focusing on the following areas:

Legislative Leadership
NIO provides a unified policy voice in Washington, D.C. and takes the lead with local, national and international governments to highlight ways to encourage the growth of neurotechnology.

Advocacy
NIO aggressively advocates in Congress and White House for important member issues such as tax reform for neurotech research and investment, as well as Medicare coverage for neuropharmaceuticals, neurodevices and neurodiagnostics.

Public Policy
NIO develops position papers, analyzes legislation, provides expert testimony to federal, state and local political leaders and regulators, and aids in the development of regional neurotechnology centers.

Neurotechnology Lobbying Issues
NIO members participate in defining and prioritizing lobbying initiatives.
The following is a brief list of public policy issues that the NIO currently has under consideration.

Cross Industry Initiatives:

  1. Incentivize neurotechnology investment (e.g support Research Competitiveness Act of 2006)
  2. Increase FDA resources for new/emerging indications (e.g. mild cognitive impairment and hearing loss)
  3. Accelerate patent office speed (fewer claims vs. continuing application process)

Market Specific Initiatives:

  1. Alzheimer's disease treatment acceleration initiative
  2. Age-Associated Memory Impairment and Mild Cognitive Impairment
  3. Neurodevice psychiatric initiative
  4. Neuromarker diagnostics initiative
